Manager/Senior Manager, Engineering (Electric Power, NERC, FERC)

This is a hybrid position which requires the incumbent to reside in the District of Columbia metropolitan area and come into the office a minimum of three days each week with two of the mandatory days being Tuesday and Wednesday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MANAGER/SENIOR MANAGER, ENGINEERING

Our Reliability department has a dynamic role for a Manager/Senior Manager, Engineering. The incumbent will provide technical leadership on electric power industry reliability planning and operations issues, including those matters related to the development and enforcement of mandatory reliability standards by the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC), as regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) under the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to EEI and its members related to transmission and distribution questions.
  • Plan, organize, and lead technical discussions with EEI’s Reliability Technical Committee. Responsibilities include establishing an agenda of key NERC and industry reliability and resilience issues, identifying and coordinating with subject matter experts to participate in the discussion, and meeting facilitation.
  • Perform analytical evaluations and draft comments on NERC Reliability Standards, reliability guidelines, technical documents and other reliability and resilience related documents and activities, drive member consensus positions, and ensure timely submittal of EEI comments.
  • Provide technical support and assist in the development of EEI comments for FERC and DOE rulemakings and proceedings.
  • Proactively engage in reliability and resilience activities with NERC, FERC, and other organizations to identify potential concerns with direction early on and identify solutions to address risks to the electric grid.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Minimum three to five years of electric utility industry experience
  • Understanding of transmission and distribution system operations or engineering/planning of the bulk-power system
  • Knowledge of the NERC industry standard development process
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse sets of internal and external stakeholders to build consensus
  • Must be able to manage time effectively, prioritize workload, and multi-task while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong research and fact-finding skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) required

Compensation

The salary range for the Manager role is $80,000 - $110,000.

The salary range for the Senior Manager role is $100,000 - $140,000.

Starting annual salary will be determined on individual qualifications. EEI also offers an annual performance incentive which is prorated for mid-year start dates. This incentive is typically up to 10% of the base salary.
